Principal - Bryan Thanner

BCPS Vision: Baltimore County Public Schools will be among the highest performing school systems in the nation as a result of creating, sustaining, and investing in excellence for every student, every school, and every community.

School Mission: To maximize the academic potential of every child in a safe and personalized environment. SRMS will prepare and promote students who are high school, college and career ready and prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century’s global society.

LITERACY

Goal: All students will achieve literacy proficiency as indicated by the MCAP assessment.

RAISE THE BAR

Instructional Focus: All students will participate in our International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Year program.  With the addition of the IB curriculum to the existing BCPS curriculum, students can expect increased rigor, a focus on critical skill development, and project-based assessments to promote real world application of their learning.

CLOSE THE GAP

Instructional Focus: Students will participate in lessons that are designed with strategies that promote responsive instruction.  Responsive instruction is any teaching strategy that utilizes data and information to gain a real time understanding of student progress in the classroom, and then make informed decisions about how to adjust instruction and provide instructional supports to meet those specific needs.

CLIMATE

Goal: The percentage of students not chronically absent will increase.

Focus: In order to improve chronic absenteeism, students will benefit from three tiers of attendance interventions, as outlined by Attendance Works.  Tier I interventions include anything that creates a positive engaging school climate.  Our students will benefit from an improved school climate as a result of their participation in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program’s principles for character development, including school wide infusion and promotion of the IB Learner Profile, the IB community project, restorative practices, and community building circles.  Additionally, students who have difficulty meeting attendance standards will have access to Attendance Works’ Tier II and Tier III interventions, which include more personalized early outreach and connections to outside agencies and support.  These interventions include, but are not limited to attendance mentoring, outreach letters, preemptive conferences to discuss ways to improve attendance, PPW support, as well as student support team meetings.
